I’ve never been particularly great at summing up things, and the same rings true for self-summations. With great enthusiasm for future truths I can definitely say that no published explanation of me has been written by my own hand save this one.
I built my first website in 2006 after graduating university, the now long-defunct kyledavidpaul.com. That’s when I was still going around as Kyle David Paul, when my email was postkdp@ and my Myspace was robust. A few months before the publication of my first novel, we decided that a name change was necessary. First off, K Sawyer Paul just sounds better. It sounds like a name a writer would have. More than that, though, it signaled a crossed line between the personal and the professional. I’d always be Kyle to people who knew me as a person, but K Sawyer worked on that other level, that space occupied by commerce, ink, and tweets.
In 2007 my partner and I founded Gredunza Press, the place that published my first book and will be publishing more books really soon. I like Gredunza more than any project I’ve been associated with. It’s not just a place where people bring their work to be edited or published. It’s a place where one can talk about writing, or link to something cool about publishing, or just put up a comic strip or a blog about whatever. It’s growing and I can’t wait to see what becomes of it.
In September 2008 I began working on my next book, and in May 2009 I began writing about it. Those scribbles will end up in the development blog for the book. Books don’t get to have commentaries the same way as movies, but the blog is going to be something to pay attention to. I’m currently shoulders-deep in my only-slightly-alternate world of 2006 Las Vegas where my characters go about their dark work.
Currently, I live and work in Toronto. During the day I do various contract work in layout and publishing. I do my best to resist starting a blog about my cat and my xbox, though that might later become the pilot for a sitcom.
