Sophie, The Latest Addition to the 'Pack'

Thought I'd post a couple of pictures of Sophie, a whippet/lurcher crossbreed, the latest addition to our home and who will eventually have her story told as one of Harry Porter's Dog tales. Sophie came from a rescue sanctuary after being found as a stray and handed over by the dog warden. She is a lucky girl as a lot of dogs in her predicament end up with a not so happy ending. We love her and think she's beautiful. I hope you agree.

Tilly has proved herself to be a real STAR!

My little crossbreed terrier Tilly, whose book Tilly's Tale will soon be released by 4RV Publishing under my 'Harry Porter' pseudonym, proved herself to be a real star last night. we were on the field near our home walking our dogs, when one of them was attacked by a vicious schnauzer who pinned him to the ground. In a flash, Tilly ran thirty yards and pounced on the attacker and pulled it away from Jarvis, who is 14 years old, almost blind and very deaf, and staying with us as a guest while his…

LATEST RELEASE

LEGACY OF THE RIPPER, THE SEQUEL TO A STUDY IN RED

Following on from the success of ‘A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper’, Brian L Porter’s sequel to the original, ‘Legacy of the Ripper’ has now been released by Double Dragon Publishing, (Ontario) and is currently available in paperback and e-book editions.
Production of the movie version of ‘A Study in Red’ is making progress and Brian is delighted to announce that he has also signed with Thunderball Films for movie production of ‘Legacy of the Ripper’

About the book:

Jack Thomas Reid, nephew of Robert Cavendish who first appeared in A Study in Red – The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper languishes in the secure Ravenswood Psychiatric Hospital, sentenced to confinement ‘at Her Majesty’s Pleasure’ for a series of apparent ‘Jack the Ripper’ copycat killings in the picturesque English coastal resort of Brighton. Jack’s defence at his trial, that he is a descendant of Jack the Ripper and that the crimes were conducted by an unknown ‘mystery man’ and that Jack was drugged and made to appear as the killer was regarded as so preposterous and unbelievable that his sentence was never in doubt. When one of the policemen who conducted the original investigation into the murders begins to doubt the truth of the case against Reid, Sergeant Carl Wright and Ripperologist Alice Nickels begin an investigation into his story. What they find is told through the voice of Doctor Ruth Truman, Jack’s psychiatrist at Ravenswood, and through a series of events that take place as far afield as the beautiful island of Malta and in Warsaw, Poland. Slowly but surely and with the help of Wright’s boss Inspector Mike Holland, the link between the events that shocked and terrorised Whitechapel over a century ago, and their link with the case of Jack Thomas Reid and the ‘Legacy of Jack the Ripper’ is revealed.

The book is currently available from Amazon.com at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1554046904 ISBN 1554046904 and will soon be available from Amazon UK as well as from other retailers.
The e-book version can be obtained from http://www.double-dragon-ebooks.com/single.php?ISBN=1-55404-689-0 ISBN 1554046890

Story Summary Robert Cavendish is bereft with grief at his father’s recent passing. He was also surprised to learn his father bequeathed Robert a mysterious journal to be read after his death. Read by him and him alone. As he reads the journal, he comes to realize that he holds in his hands the actual rantings and admissions of Jack the Ripper! But that, as they say, is only the beginning. From those pages Robert discovers the answer to old mysteries and atrocities, answers that lead him down a path of horror and insanity. What affect can the secret ravings of a murderer such as Jack the Ripper have on a person? And what connection did Robert’s father have to this secret journal?

Opinion
I was immediately struck by the enormous amount of research that went into A Study in Red (The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper). It brought 18th century London to life, making the story almost palpable. For over a hundred years, the mystery of Jack the Ripper has been investigated, written about, and discussed, but never like this. I could feel the cobblestones under my feet, hear the horses and carriages and smell the foul air of the London back alleyways.

The journal was an interesting tool, bringing the reader directly into Jack’s world and the insanity inflicting him. Experiencing the journal with Robert was intense as the mysteries unfold page by page. The suspense kept me engrossed well into the late evening hours, just as Robert had… I can feel the goose bumps now.

The identity of Jack the Ripper has been explored, but never in such a deliciously nail biting manner. Although fiction, the possibilities of who Jack really was and where he came from as well as his unfortunate victims felt all too real thanks to the obvious hard work of the author to create this sensational tale.

THE VOICE OF ANTON BOUCHARD

The cover of my latest paperback release from Mythica Publshing. 'The Voice of Anton Bouchard' is a short story collection, with the title piece being a novelette length tale that takes the reader deep inside the mind of a serial killer who is stalking the streets of Paris during a long hot summer. What is surprising in this story is not so much how the killer despatches his vicitms, but why he does it. Other titles in the collection include 'Breathing to Death', 'Red Sky in the Morning', 'Megalith', 'An Alien Abduction', 'The Sound of Silence', 'Bodies in the Cellar', and a sample of four chapters from my latest work in progress.

REVIEW
The Voice Of Anton Bouchard - (Kristina Dalton)
Mr. Porter carries through on the promise of his earlier works, delivering plot twists and elements of amazing imagination in a collection of stories that will entertain, provoke thought and satisfy. I recommend this as a refreshing read for both sci-fi fans and people like me who have not read much in that genre. It definitely has something for everyone. ~ Kristina Dalton author of Vampire's Lover, The King's Right, The Ring, Taken, Unleashed, Untold

KISS OF LIFE
I'm thrilled to announce that Mythica Publishing will soon be releasing 'Kiss of Life' in both paperback and e-book editions. The novella is the sequel to my vampire tale 'Dracula Doesn't Live Here Anymore' recently released in paperback by Eternal Press, and which is picking up some great reviews from readers at Amazon. Graeme S Houston has once again surpassed himself with the stunning cover design for the book and the story itself takes up the tale a year after the events described in the original novelette.

No such things as vampires?

Kiss of Life from Brian L Porter

Investigative journalist Alan Dexter is beset by a recurring nightmare, in which the woman he met and fell in love with a year previously in Romania, appears to him as a vampire, calling to him in the depths of night. Convinced that the dream is a plea for help from the beautiful Christina Radaluć, Dexter tries to contact her through her employer at the Romanian News Agency, only to hear that she has been missing for two months. He enlists the help of his long-time friend and fellow journalist Karen Bailey, and the two intrepid journalists board a flight to Bucharest, and begin a dramatic and at times terrifying search for the woman of his dreams. As they journey into the mountains of remote and legendary Transylvania Dexter and Karen must face not only the perils of a Romanian winter, but the terrifying and brutal reality that slowly unravels as they learn the truth surrounding the disappearance of Christina.

Dexter and Christina first appeared in the author’s novelette Dracula Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, published by Eternal Press. Read the story of their first meeting and the series of murders they must solve together in the thrilling prequel to Kiss of Life, available in paperback from Amazon.com or in e-book directly from Eternal Press.

A group of women gather at a Belgian fertility clinic where Doctor Margherita Dumas offers a revolutionary and decidedly experimental treatment for their infertility. Thirty years later a mysterious killer stalks and begins to wipe out the children born as a result of Dumas’ programme. Is there a link between the events of the past and the deaths of the innocent progeny of the Clinique Sobel?
Detective Inspector Harry Houston and his specialist team of murder investigators must piece together the complex web that links the deaths across nations and leads to a terrifying conclusion as the story of The Nemesis Cell unfolds!

Purple Death

Tranquil suburban Richmond-on-Thames, home to such landmarks as Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens becomes the setting for a series of shocking and particularly gruesome murders that leads Detective Inspector Sean Connor and his team into a labyrinthine investigation in which all roads lead towards a thirty year old unsolved murder. The victims, all apparently unconnected to each other, are being despatched by the use of a singularly unique poison, previously more closely associated with the notorious medieval Borgia family.

As the murders begin to multiply at an alarming rate Connor finds clues hard to come by, and every lead takes him down yet another blind alley as the killer seems to be one step ahead of the police at every turn. Together, he and his assistant Sergeant Lucy Clay must piece together the shreds of evidence that will lead them to the mysterious ‘Chocolate Woman’ and in turn to the brain behind the horrific murders that soon come to be known as ‘The Purple Death’

eBook

Rating:

Brian L. Porter has a gift of spinning a short tale with enough detail and suspense to satisfy mystery and paranormal fans alike.

DRACULA DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE benefits from the author's careful research woven with creativity and flair. The author brings his characters to life in such a prolific way that you feel like you are sitting right next to them in a drafty inn in a Romanian village.

A new twist on a classic tale.

Happily, the solid, unpredictable story and well detailed characterization are well worthy of anyone's time and definitely deserves a 4 Klover rating.

You're welcome. I love sequels. I am working on a series, too, book-length which should contain several novels. I am a fan of British literature, especially 19th century. Have always had a yen for England. Maybe I lived there in another life. Anyway... good to meet you and thank you for the friend request. I am reading Charlain Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series of the vampire genre right about now, and it's not bad... I am much looking forward to reading yours.

When we were kids we use to think we were born with magical powers of thought, we would pretend we were able to change traffic lights with our minds we thought we could conjure up a magical spell with no problem at all.

So were these thoughts of who we wanted to really be or were these the thoughts of who we really are and did we loose our powers of magic, or did we just forget where to go to learn how to use them, so was the story of a boy named Johnathan and his mentor Dolan. Follow me now to a world where the unexpected really does happen a place called "Safe Haven Castle" a place where all the things we thought were true, are true. I bid you "Welcome"

High in the clouds a castle doth stand it's regal peaks stand proud over the land, it's not the King that makes it strong nor knights or women, it is the somber thought of a child's mind that forever keeps the walls of this beautiful castle standing and everything in it living. Such is the story of a dying old man who once stood at the castle gates a proud warrior for the King. A champion with his trusty steed beneath him his years were proud as he served his land with honor and oh so bravely. This old and dying man now looking for the child who would rule "Safe Haven".

Back in the years of Dragons and unicorns there may have been such a child but now as time goes on and people forget and television rules the thought of those who could or may have been perfect such a place, these children forced to be grown before their souls have had a chance to soar with the eagles are now sitting in front of a box that thinks for them. Kings and castles are now in a game that they try and over come never once giving the children a chance to see it with in there own minds.

This old knight this man now wrinkled with time had only one hope a small frail young lad who's only friend was the old man. The boy now barely 15, would visit the old man at his house way up on the hill every day because this was the last house on his paper route and just as the sun would come up the old man waited for his friend greeting him there in yard he would say, "A fine good morning Jonathan". Little John would always reply "Morning Mr. Dolan" as he handed the old man his paper. He and Johnny would always talk for a few minutes before it was time for Johnny to go to school (his least favorite place) It was the only time Johnny ever felt strong enough to speak his mind, they would talk all the time of the days of yore and how great it would be to fight a dragon. The old man on this day said Johnny when you come by tomorrow I will have a special surprise for you so why don't you come early, OK? Johnny smiled and looked up and said sure Mr. Dolan I'll be glad to.

The next morning just like clock work Johnny had made his way up to Mr. Dolans old house that sat so splendidly on the hill and as he approached he noticed the old man doing one of his magic tricks only this time Johnny noticed the old man was almost laughing he was so happy Johnny just had to ask "Are you OK Mr. Dolan?" The old man just giggled and said OK? OK? Why Johnny today you will see something you never thought existed! Johnny now ready to burst with excitement said "What is it? Is that my surprise? What is it?" The old mans' eyes rose from his little magic trick and said "Yes....are you ready" In the three years Johnny new the old man he had never seen such a twinkle in his eyes. "Yes, yes let's do it!"

For the longest time we have had to handle "ghosts" in the closet and monsters under the bed our kids have always seen and heard them and yet we don't know why, we also have the strange phenomena of kids crying the moment there born. So why do these things happen what kind of demons exist in our lives that we as adults don't remember. Are there demons that we are running from that chase us even after we are born? This is a story of such an explanation, of how our demons chase us from a past life into the one we live now. To our kids they real and maybe we just forgot that they do exist, and we will always be chased from one life to the next trying to shake them. This is the story of "Where it Begins"

Back in the early 30's there was a man by the name of Big Al, the Capone mob used him as a hit man, sort of a collector of debts. "Big Al" was notorious for quick and clean kills, he was the best until one day he to met his demise. Though he was a Catholic he never gave much thought of heaven and hell, but after that bullet had lodged itself in his head, all there was after that was the dark terror of hell. He had no idea where he was until he felt that first bite of a demon in his side and heard a voice, a deep and almost painfully recognizable voice utter the words he had feared most "Yes you are in hell and I own your soul prepare your self for an eternity of fear, pain, and damnation, I am your lord Lucifer" At that moment he felt the searing pain of being bitten again in his side the pain so great he couldn't even scream. He picked himself up and in the darkness he ran aimlessly trying to escape the attack of demons of which he could not see. No matter which way he ran nothing but darkness held him prisoner. So he screamed, "Somebody help me God please get me out of here" but to no avail the torture continued. Now running and swinging his arms to ward of the demons his journey through the darkness continued, the sulfur smell now choking him as he ran through the flaming darkness "God oh God what have I done" he said "If there be a way to be forgiven lord please, I beg your forgiveness" No sooner had he uttered those words he noticed up ahead there seemed to be a light, and in that light was a human figure completely undamaged by the ravages of hell. Faster and faster he ran towards that light again feeling another tear in his flesh as the demons had their way with him. He approached the human figure with one last scream of torturous pain he yelled, "God help me" and jumped with every thing he had towards that body, his soul latching on to the human figure. As he made his connection he cried out with his final painful scream, his body now being ripped through a tunnel of light his mind somehow loosing consciousness as he regained his composure cried out one last time only to hear a mans voice say in a very firm fashion .....Congratulations Mrs. Wakeman you've just given birth to a beautiful boy. Seeing the woman who would be his mother she smiled at him and said hello Mikey its me mommy. No this can't be he thought, I am alive and I'm a.........a...........a baby? How? But what? The nurse rapped him tight in a blanket, and from that point on his memory of who he was and what he had gone through faded, ever so quickly loosing all thought and memory of everything in his past. However one thought stayed in his mind, a thought he would not understand until later in his life. The only morbid thought a child should never have ........He remembered "Hell"!
